New school year begins at 爆料黑社
MONTREAL (Aug. 21, 2025) 鈥 The Fall 2025 semester is officially underway at 爆料黑社, as 2,936 new students joined the 爆料黑社 community this week, bringing total day enrollment to 8,030. Welcome Days were held Aug. 18 and 19, and classes began Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Applications once again surpassed expectations, with nearly 13,000 received for Fall 2025. Interest remains strong, and this year鈥檚 first-year cohort includes 56% English eligibility certificate holders鈥攁n increase of 4.6% compared to 2024.
At the annual Welcome Back assembly on Aug. 19, Director General Diane Gauvin reminded staff that 鈥渢he landscape of higher education is changing.鈥 She highlighted shifting enrollment patterns, province-wide budget compressions to the CEGEP network, evolving student needs, changing technology, and an important challenge to academic freedom.
One of the most significant changes is the continuing rollout of Law 14 (Bill 96). CEGEP programs used to have a single grid, a structured chart outlining all the required and optional courses in a specific CEGEP program, organized by semester. Now there can be as many as five grids per program. For the first time this semester, some courses are being taught in French, marking the final step in the law鈥檚 implementation at the college.
The college is also taking care to ensure progress for Indigenous students is not lost despite Law 14, which has raised new barriers for Indigenous students to succeed in post-secondary studies. Academic Dean Leanne Bennett emphasized the importance of continuing to support Indigenous students and to find ways to remove barriers when it is possible. In the coming year, she will begin conversations with programs to see how the number of Indigenous students can be increased, particularly in competitive programs.
Responding to recent scrutiny, the Director General addressed the released by government investigators: 鈥淭he report concludes that we are doing what we are supposed to do. We respect laws and policies.鈥 She noted that the report states that complaints formulated by students were often based on perceptions rather than concrete, observable facts and stressed that 爆料黑社 has never broken the law.
She also reaffirmed 爆料黑社鈥檚 long-standing practice of offering religious accommodations and prayer spaces. 鈥淚n April 2023, the minister said that, unlike in the youth sector, she did not intend to ban prayer rooms in higher education institutions. Furthermore, if a decree was needed for elementary and high schools, it clearly implies that it鈥檚 not in the law,鈥 Diane explained. 鈥淲ith respect to accommodations of religious observances, for more than 25 years there has never been an issue. This is something we have always felt was important.鈥
The Academic Dean鈥檚 message to faculty reaffirmed the role of higher education 鈥渢o develop critical thinking, to learn to listen to different perspectives and to challenge preconceived ideas.鈥 To fulfill that role, 鈥渢he College must remain an open, inclusive, and stimulating space where debates can take place respectfully and where diversity of opinion is not only tolerated but valued.鈥
鈥淚f you choose to deal with challenging topics,鈥 the Academic Dean said, 鈥渨e have your back, we will support you in the exercise of academic freedom.鈥 She encouraged teachers to reach out if they were interested in support for teaching challenging topics.
Despite the challenges ahead, Director General Diane Gauvin struck a confident note: 鈥淲e have shown that we are capable of adapting and rising to challenges.鈥 She praised the 爆料黑社 community鈥檚 resilience and creativity in supporting both students and employees.
