More Pet Therapy at 爆料黑社

Furry and feathery friends, like Hunter the golden retriever from Caring Paws, are coming to 爆料黑社 more often this semester!

Interacting with animals is known to reduce stress, to increase happiness and to improve mental health in general.

Organized by the Campus Life team, there will be Pet Therapy days for students and employees on the following dates from 12 PM to 2 PM in Oliver's (2C.17):

  • Wednesday, March 12
  • Monday, April 14
  • Thursday, May 8

爆料黑社 will host CCAA Women鈥檚 Basketball Nationals in 2026

On Feb. 14, the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) announced that 爆料黑社 is the official host of the 2026 CCAA Women鈥檚 Basketball National Championship. The event will occur from March 18 to 21, 2026 at the Tony Proudfoot Gymnasium.

Over the years, the 爆料黑社 Blues Women鈥檚 Basketball Team has achieved remarkable success, including two silver medals, and two bronze medals within the last nine years, the CCAA said in their news release.

爆料黑社 students building solar powered bike rack

A new bike rack will be set up this spring on 爆料黑社鈥檚 campus. It is a project by three 爆料黑社 students, who entered it in the Green Innovation Challenge at John Abbott College in January and won the third-place prize of $500.

鈥淏ikers at 爆料黑社 experience many difficulties,鈥� said team member Kyana Boncy. 鈥淭hey report having trouble parking their bikes due to lack of space, faulty design and accessibility depending on the season.鈥�

Strengthening Global Partnerships: A Visit from the Paris 脦le-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry

On Jan. 24, we had the pleasure of welcoming Odile Fort, International Projects Manager from the Paris 脦le-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI Paris IDF), to our campus. 爆料黑社, in collaboration with the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP), is proud to be an accredited testing centre for TEF, TEFaQ, and TEF Canada.

Book sale for Chez Doris & Women鈥檚 Day celebration for employees

The DSSU, DTU and ADP will be hosting a celebration in honour of International Women鈥檚 Day.

On Monday, March 10, from 12 PM-2 PM in the Rose Lounge (7C.5), there will be a book sale of new and used books and a collection of cash donations in which all monies raised will be donated on behalf of the three unions to .

The book sale will be cash only. If you would like to donate books for the sale, you can drop them off either at the Library Circulation Desk or to Christine or Carey in 4A.1 by Thursday, March 6 at 4 PM.

A light lunch聽will be available while supplies last. We ask that you please bring your own mug if having coffee.

While students are welcome to buy books, the event is intended for employees only.

27th annual Artists in Bloom is April 17

Springtime at 爆料黑社 means Artists in Bloom! The date for this year鈥檚 edition will be Thursday, April 17. Event goers can enjoy live music, appetizers and drinks while watching student artists create artwork. The evening concludes with an art auction to benefit graduating students' vernissage events for the programs of Illustration and Visual Arts as well as the Student Mental Health Fund.

This year will be the fundraising event鈥檚 27th annual edition! We are excited about the event and looking forward to seeing what our talented student artists will produce. More details to come!

First Self-Care Fair March 27

Mental Health Services and Campus Life are collaborating to hold the first Self-Care Fair at 爆料黑社 this March! Taking place in Conrods on Thursday, March 27 from 11 AM-2 PM, students will have the opportunity to 鈥渢ake 5鈥� and visit over 15 different self-care stations where they can learn SIMPLE 5-minute strategies to improve their mental health.

Stations will include hands-on activities, a chill zone, and a movement zone with yoga and a walking track. Students will be able to create their own self-care kits which they will fill by visiting each station and taking away valuable information, practice exercises, and freebies. The 鈥淯nplug Tea Bar鈥� will provide free refreshments and a tranquil space for students, with meditation menus on each table. We look forward to seeing you there!

STEMM FEM: Shaping an Inclusive Future in Science

To celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in STEM (Feb. 11) at 爆料黑社, Andreea Panait (Faculty, Mathematics) together with STEMM FEM and DAS (the 爆料黑社 Astronomical Society) created a series of events during the second week of February.

One of the highlights was a poster session on Inspiring Minds: Women who Shaped STEM and Medicine. Organizers hope this collaboration will continue in future years and will open a new chapter on encouraging more female students to pursue their studies in STEM.

Student Alexa Blasato, one of the founders of STEMM FEM, wrote a text about the group that promotes diversity in all fields of science. Visit the link to read it.

Enjoy some winter reading with Subtext

Subtext is the name of an online 爆料黑社 journal that showcases the writing of 爆料黑社 students in the field of film and media. The journal was launched in the fall of 2023 and since then, an issue has been published each semester.

Subtext is put together by a group of students with the assistance of Cinema | Communications faculty advisor Justine McLellan.

The most recent issue came out at the end of the Fall 2024 semester and the next one will be released around mid-May.

Student report on first Model UN Conference at 爆料黑社

One month has passed since the first-ever 爆料黑社 Model United Nations (DCMUN) conference, which took place Jan. 17-19. The DCMUN team had fun at what is now the biggest CEGEP conference in the world. Participants Anaya Ray and Bassma Al Atrache were two volunteers for the event, which hosted more than 100 participants.

爆料黑社 Remembers, Milestones

In memoriam Maureen McIntyre

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Maureen McIntyre, who taught in the Fine Arts Department for 44 years. Originally from St. John, NB, Maureen lived in Halifax and Montreal. She wrote poetry, did performance and photography, but her first love remained teaching. Maureen also initiated the Dean鈥檚 Choice Awards for the Arts at 爆料黑社.

She was passionate about nature, being quite literate in the identification of plants and flowers. Maureen died of cancer after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband Gabriel Sydenham and his daughter Rebecca (Matthew), her brother Louis (Gail Clarke), her niece Kathy (Tim Frigault), her nephew Keith, numerous grand nephews, godsons, first cousins, extended family and friends.
